FYI: Is advantage playing slot machines illegal?

A common question that I get from people who are new to the idea of advantage slot play is if it is legal? I understand the concerns that some of you may have. When I got started, I too wondered if I could get in trouble. Like this making money off of the casinos thing was coming far too easy. The house is always supposed to win. Am I doing something wrong? Are there laws against this?

In short, the answer to those questions are no and no. I’ll put it like this, advantage playing slot machines certainly isn’t illegal as long as you aren’t doing anything underhanded which influences the outcome of a machine. Things such as using foreign devices or altering the machines so that the results work out in your favor.

You’re not doing anything illegal if you see an advantage staring you right in the face, sit down on a machine & play it until the advantage is gone. Now is it frowned upon by casinos? In all likelihood, yes. A casino is obviously in the business of making money. A disciplined, profitable advantage slot player is not going to add to their bottom line. So there will always be some risk of being thrown out of a casino. But as far as being in legal trouble goes, highly unlikely.
