Quick Tip #2: Looks Can Be Deceiving. These Are NOT Advantage Play Slot Machines.

Two Fu Dao Le slot machines by Scientific Games/Bally. The machine on the right has more coins lit up. Advantage play?

In the last year or so there has been an influx of slot machines by multiple manufacturers where players can win one of four progressive jackpots. These have proven to be very popular machines in casinos for a few reasons. The one that I believe contributes highest to their success is that the top progressive prize on most of these machines starts at $10000 & can be won without max betting.

Same thing going on here on this Duo Fu Duo Cai slot machine. The machine on the left has more coins in its container compared to the right.

You’ll often see a bank of these slots full of players, especially if the top jackpot is running high. Low rollers have been yearning for slots where there is the chance to win serious money without having to bet $3-5 per spin. You can win the top progressive prize on minimum bet which is 88 cents on nearly all of these machines.

The reason I’m bringing up these types machines is that I’ve been asked several times if there is some kind of edge or way to beat these machines. I also happened to stumble upon a post on Tripadvisor titled “Warning: Slot Machine Scam? (Cosmopolitan Las Vegas).” A person playing a Da JI Da Li machine erroneously thought that by lighting up all of the firecrackers that it would trigger the progressive mini-game where one of the four progressive would be won. This was not the case. The player lost $300 & thought that something was amiss.

Manufacturer AGS has several of progressive titles that try to entice players to continue to chase & trigger a progressive. This one is Olympus Strikes. Note the lit bolts on the armband.

Don’t be fooled. These are not advantage play slot machines. They may look like it, but they are not. The amount of coins in the container, firecrackers that are lit up, or notches lit on Zeus’s armband only indicate how long it has been since the progressive mini-game has been triggered. That’s it & just because a progressive has not been triggered in awhile does not mean that it is “due” to hit.  Machines like these are meant to convince players that hitting a progressive is near & to continue playing until they trigger it. Don’t fall into the trap.
